Youth Center's Tutoring Program Helps
The Bandon Community Youth Center continues to make a difference with its after-school tutoring program. Not long ago, a young girl named Victoria and her parents approached program staff Loreen Mills and Sharon Wallace seeking help with her homework. Loreen outlined the tutoring program and shared that all fourth graders that come to the Center from Oceah Crest elementary school are asked to do their homework first upon arriving at the Center as part of our effor to develop study habits early.
Recently, Victoria came into the Center beaming. She proudly showed her report card to program staff and to the Executive Director. Her progress had been remarkable. In classes where she had struggled previously, Victoria got As and Bs. She was excelling in all her classes.
The Center's tutoring program is offered daily Monday through Thursday to all 4th through 12th graders in the District. |

Youth Center Tutoring Program
With kids back in school, they have an opportunity to take advantage of the Youth Center's after-school tutoring program. This Program is available to all students in the Bandon School District from grades 4 all the way through the senior year of high school.
This highly successful program is conducted by Youth Center program staff Loreen Mills and Sharon Watson. Loreen brings two Years of tutoring experience at Westminster High School in California. Executive Director Harv Schubothe is also available to lend a hand on occasion.
Our computer/classroom has been overhauled to provide the space and resources lor the Program. Seven computer workstations will be available and several provide supervised computers dedicated to internet research. The Center also provides WIFI for students bringing their own laptop computers. Again, internet access is filtered to prevent access to inappropriate internet sites.
Like last year, the Center is hoping to find volunteers from the high school leadership class to Provide tutoring for the elementary school students. This Provides the older youth with an opportunity to contribute to their community while helping those interested in pursuing careers in education with a chance to build their resumes. Last Year, seventeen high school students volunteered their time.
The Youth Center's tutoring Program is offered free of charge to the students in the Bandon district. It is available for tutoring Monday through Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:00.
