Volunteers
The Bandon Community Youth Center utilizes community members as volunteer staff for chaperoning, office work, tutoring, and mentoring and recreation center supervision. This gives our local citizens an opportunity to participate with and support the youth while giving our youth the chance to form friendships within the adult community. Many of our teens need positive role models and we have found that our volunteers can fill this need. We have a handbook with specific information for volunteers that include board approved policies and procedures. Each volunteer, like our staff members, is required to pass a criminal background check prior to working with our youth.
Past Volunteer of the Month - Jared Helms
The Youth Center's Volunteer of the month is Jared Helms. Jared is a sophomore at Bandon High School. An "A" student, Jared enjoys helping people.
Jared has been a mainstay in the Center's tutoring program and is one of the primary tutors for high school students that take advantage of our free program. Jared has also been the primary computer resource for the program.
During the summer and on some weekends you will find Jared carrying golf bags for customers at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort where he works as a junior caddy.
The Center will see less of Jared this spring as he will be a member of the High School Track and Field team. Jared will compete in the weight events such as the shot put, discus and javelin.
