Youth Center Adds New Program Staff
Loreen Mills and Sharon Wallace have joined the Youth Center as its new program staff. Loreen will be part of our program team and also assist with management of some of the Center's office activities as time allows. Loreen has just returned to Bandon after livingthe past 5 years in Morocco. Loreen earned her bachelor's degree at California State University, Long Beach and tutored at Westminster high school and assisted with special education students at Morningside Elementary in Garden Grove. Her law office and human resources director skills will help in the office.
Many local people may recognize Sharon Wallace from her years as a restaurant supervisor, server, baker and barista here in Bandon. Sharon just earned her Bachelor's degreefrom Portland State and is lookingto put her many years of customer service skills together with her education to use in a new and rewarding career. Sharon joins Loreen as the Center's program delivery staff.
Nikki Tracy heads back to school
They say you can never get enough learning. And that's exactly what our program aide Nikki Tracy is doing. Nikki left us in September to continue his education her education in Nevada. She wants to establish the credentials to work in the field she loves, with kids.
Nikki joined us as a volunteer in September 2009 and became an instant hit with our kids as age-wise she was seen as a big sister. She worked with the Program Manager by assisting with our tutoring program.
When a vacancy occurred on our Board of Directors for a member under the age of 21, Nikki was an easy choice to fill the open spot.
ln mld-January, our Program Recreation Aide position was vacated and Nikki was added to our program staff. Nikki immediately went to work providing an incentive program to get our kids involved in cleaning and caring for the Center. She helped put together a snack bar program to reduce the need for youth to venture to the store or
local fast food restaurant. And she was constantly coming up with new craft and game activities for the kids.
We will miss her smiling face at the Youth Center.
