Our History

The Youth Center was conceptualized and incorporated in 1997. Through the generous donations and volunteer time from many in the community, a 3200 square foot building was constructed and furnished without the aid of grant or foundation money and was opened in 1998. Ten years later, it remains a reality due to the very charitable contributions of civic organizations, business and individual donors, fund raisers and grant providers.

The Youth Center currently serves 20 - 30 youth each day with 45% of these considered “at risk” teenagers. On weekend dance or movie nights, the attendance at the Youth Center ranges from 40 to 60. The Chief of Police has stated that there has been a 65% decrease in juvenile crime in the Bandon Area since the Youth Center has opened.

In order to become self-sufficient, the Youth Center has opened two businesses including one through grant support from the PGE Foundation. Our Copy Shop is located onsite and presently is one of two such businesses in town addressing all color and black & white copy needs. The Youth Center also owns and operates Our Thrift Store, which has become the most consistent source of revenue for our programs.
